Make the coverage question specific
That list is called a formulary.
This step is called prior authorization.
For Medicare, the reason for using the medicine can change whether it is eligible for drug-benefit coverage.
Ask about the medicine, visits and tests as separate items.
Keep the product name and the plan's answer together.
Why the reason matters for Medicare
In September 2026, regular Medicare Part D drug coverage still leaves out medicines used for weight loss.
For another medically accepted condition, such as diabetes, that medicine may be eligible for Part D.
Eligible for coverage does not mean the plan has agreed to pay. Its medicine list and prior authorization still matter.
Ask before choosing cash payment
Drugmaker cash-payment offers generally sit outside insurance. The cost does not count toward the plan's deductible or its yearly cap on what you pay.
The deductible is the amount a plan requires you to pay before some coverage begins. Ask the plan how its rules apply to the quote you have.
